  4. I believe there will be more genre mashing. If anyone else is like me, then we're all hoping for some new and exciting material to read that's completely unique from what's already published!

  6. If the genre is wide open, authors will write it. It's a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new trend!

    1. Totally agree. I think one of the most "outlandish" examples of genre-mashing I've read is Merissa Meyer's 'Cinder.' A sci-fi fairy tale. O_O It was wicked good, and though I don't read a whole lot of science fiction, it was a very unique twist to an age-old tale!

    1. Also, I'm not sure what new mashups there will be, but there's always something. And most of the time it's a lot of the same thing.

    2. You're welcome! And by "a lot of the same thing," do you mean like mashups that kind of follow the same trend? (i.e. vampire dystopia?)

  10. Mixed genres are good if you can pull it off. If you add to many genres it begins to feel like a lot of stories jumbled up in one with hot sauce on top AHH!

Lol Thanks for the giveaway Krystle!!

    1. I agree about it starting to be kind of messy if you get too many genres thrown in. I think just about any story has a mixture of different genres, but one really stands out as the primary amongst all those.

      And you're welcome. =)

  13. I think that we will be seeing more and more genre mixing because mixing creates whole new concepts and story lines as well as adding spice to some of the tired and overused story lines... Ie- vampires, werewolves, fae, etc.
I think that dystopian universes, and apocalyptic fiction will continue to be a strong theme because as a whole it is a big concern that sits at the back of our minds.

    1. Hi Crystal,

You're welcome. ;) What you said about apocalyptic fiction really hits home, I think. Though we try not to think about it, there's always going to be that little voice in the back of our heads that knows all it takes is one nuclear bomb or a fatal disease or something to trigger the end. I think that's the draw of zombie fiction/media and epidemic novels and movies (i.e. 'Contagion'). It's really scary.

      Thanks for entering!

  14. I think that it may soon even become its own genre. It has become really popular. I also agree with what Crystal said about the reason behind why dystopian/apocalyptic fiction is on the rise.

Thank you for the giveaway! I look forward to reading your books.

    1. I think it's just the beginning, too. Thanks for stopping by. =) I really want to read the other vampire dystopia books out there, like 'Immortal Rules,' 'The Hunt,' and 'Darkness Before Dawn.' I love Kagawa's Iron Fey series, and the other two sound like they'd be fun to read, as well.

    2. I haven't really seen any other vampire dystopia books, so I'll have to check those out. I just read the first book in the Iron Fey series, that's the first book about fairies that I actually really liked. So I'm excited to see how she does vampires.

  21. I believe we will. Mashing two different genres appeal to more readers and can turn readers on to certain genres that they normally wouldn't try. Even if genre-mashing isn't a huge success, it certainly won't hinder an author/book.

Thanks Krystle for the giveaway. Dystopian novels are my favorite followed by any paranormal novel. Since this mixes both, it already has an advantage in my mind and makes me want to read it. Putting it on my To read list on good reads right now!
